Berthe Des Clayes (1877-1922)

Berthe Des Clayes was born in 1877 at Aberdeen, Scotland. Berthe had two sisters, Alice and Gertrude Des Clayes. All three sisters became painters, but Berthe was the most recognized for her pastoral scenes in pastel or oil. Mainly a self-taught artist, Berthe studied at the London Herkomer School, Bushey, and at the Paris Julian Academy before settling in Montreal in 1912.
